Lunch advice

On a day, tap the lunch row and our adviser tells you where lunch fits and which nearby places are worth it, with the places on a map. Premium

Every planned day has a lunch break in it, shown as a row such as Lunch · about 1 hr 30. For premium travellers with AI assistance on, that row has a chevron and opens an adviser.

What you get

  1. A map of what's near lunch. The two stops either side of lunch are marked, each with a ring around it, and every restaurant and café Apple Maps lists nearby appears as a lettered pin. That part runs on your phone.
  2. A short brief in an adviser's voice. First where lunch fits in this day, then two or three options that point at the lettered pins, and one recommendation. When the stops are far apart, or the day is a long drive through lunchtime, it says where on the road to stop.
  3. Find on map. If the brief names a place that isn't one of the pins, tap Find on map to look it up yourself.

While it works you'll see "Asking our adviser…" and "Checking what people say about places near <your stops>."

Gemini or Perplexity

By default the brief is written by Google Gemini from a Google search, and the sheet says "Written by Gemini from a Google search", with Google's search suggestions under it. If you turn on Lunch advice from Perplexity in Profile, Perplexity answers instead, searching the web, and the sheet says "Written by our adviser from a web search". See Turning on AI assistance.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't change your plan. Nothing about lunch is saved on the trip.
  • It shows no star ratings or review counts. What people say is in the adviser's words.
  • It doesn't claim to have eaten anywhere, and it can be wrong. See How far to trust AI suggestions.
  • It's only for you. The answer is kept on your phone, for you to reread, and isn't shown to your trip mates.

Limits

  • There's a daily limit on asks for each day of a trip, "Ask again" included. At it you'll see "You've asked a few times today — try again tomorrow."
  • There's also a monthly allowance shared by all travellers. When it's used up: "Our adviser is resting until next month."
  • If it can't check online or can't be reached, it says so and offers Try again.

See Fair use of AI trip planning.

If the lunch row isn't tappable

The adviser needs premium, AI assistance on, and a day with a lunch break. Without them the row is plain text. See Turning on AI assistance.
