Weather forecasts and weather guidance
The Weather forecasts switch shows each day's forecast from Open-Meteo. Past the forecast window you see typical weather, labelled as an average. Premium
Weather has two parts, and they're easy to mix up. One is a plain forecast that doesn't use AI. The other is local guidance an AI writes for your scheduled days.
Weather forecasts (not AI)
Turn on Weather forecasts in Profile (premium) and each planned day with a date shows its forecast. The data comes from Open-Meteo, which the app credits in Profile as "Weather by Open-Meteo · CC BY 4.0". Open-Meteo is sent the coordinates of your trip's places and the dates, and nothing about you.
- Within about 16 days of today you see a real forecast.
- Further out you see typical weather, an average of past years. It's labelled to say so, for example "Typical for October — an average of past years, not a forecast", and rain notes talk about the regional pattern, not your date.
This switch is separate from AI assistance. You can have either, both or neither.
Local weather guidance (AI)
With AI assistance on, building a schedule can also ask the AI for a short note of local weather guidance for each scheduled day. It's written from a web search, like the other AI features. See How AI helps when you Auto-plan.
Weather and Auto-plan
The AI step in Auto-plan that rearranges a day reads a forecast of its own, even when Weather forecasts is off, so it can take the weather into account when it orders a day. The two switches stay independent: AI on with Weather off still does that, and Weather on with AI off draws forecasts and nothing else.
What to remember
- A forecast is a forecast. Check it again the day before.
- Typical weather is not a prediction for your dates.
- AI guidance can be wrong. See How far to trust AI suggestions.
