Trip cost estimate
A rough per-person cost for your trip, built from prices found online and added up on your phone. An estimate, not a quote. Premium
When a trip is planned and its ticket is issued, a premium traveller with AI assistance and Trip cost from Perplexity on sees a stub on the ticket: Est. per person, a range such as A$2,000–2,900, and "excl. flights". Tap it to open the breakdown.
What's in it
| Row | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Accommodation | A typical mid-range room for each night, per person. |
| Getting around | The journeys between your areas and typical local transport, plus mobile data for the days. |
| Food & dining | Typical meals per day. |
| Attractions & activities | Entry prices of the places on your trip. A place with no entry price shows as "Nothing with an entry price". |
| Tips and small extras | A 10% allowance. |
Under Where it goes each line says where its price came from, and the sheet lists what's Not included: international flights, travel insurance, souvenirs and shopping. The card also says when the prices were checked. You can change the number of travellers.
How it's worked out
The adviser searches the web for typical prices and the app adds them up on your phone. This takes up to about a minute, so you'll see "Pricing your trip…" while it works. If it can't find a price for one place, that line is marked "Not priced". When a room or a day's food couldn't be found, the estimate may use a country-wide typical price and says so: "A country-wide typical price, not searched for this city". Price the rest tries again for just the missing lines.
Keeping it current
- If your trip changes, the card says "Your trip has changed since this estimate." Tap Update estimate.
- If there isn't enough to give a figure: "We couldn't price enough of this trip to give a figure." Try again later.
What's sent
The country, cities, journeys and place names go to Perplexity. Your name and email don't. See What the AI sees, and who gets it.
Limits
- You can ask three times a day for each trip. After that: "You've asked a few times today — try again tomorrow."
- If the monthly allowance shared by all travellers is used up, the stub reads "Resting until next month".

"Prices are typical rates seen online, not quotes for your dates. Check before you book." Real prices depend on dates, season and availability. See How far to trust AI suggestions.
