Fair use of AI trip planning
AI answers are shared and cost real money, so there are limits. This is what counts as fair use, the limits you can meet, and what you'll see when you reach one.
Use AI help to plan your own trips and tell us when it's wrong. Don't automate it, share your access or try to get around the limits. Each AI feature has a daily limit on a trip and a monthly allowance shared by everyone. When one runs out that feature rests, and your plan still works.
This page is OffYaGo's fair use policy for the AI features: the ones premium switches on. It sits alongside our Terms of Use, which apply to the whole app. If the two ever seem to disagree, the Terms win.
Why there's a policy
OffYaGo is free, with no ads. The one thing that costs us real money every time it runs is an AI answer. The AI services we use charge for each request, and some of those charges go on a monthly bill we share across every traveller. A few heavy users could use up what everyone else needs. So AI is switched on by hand, per person and per feature, and kept within limits so it lasts.
What counts as fair use
- Planning your own trips and trips you share with your mates.
- Re-planning when something changes: new places, new dates, a new trip length.
- Asking an adviser when you want a view: where to eat, ideas for a free day, where to stay, roughly what a trip costs.
- Trying new features and telling us what's wrong or confusing. That's what premium is for.
What doesn't
- Automating it. Scripts, bots or other tools that call the AI features or the app's servers for you. This matches Terms of Use section 6.
- Sharing your access. Premium is for you. Don't hand your account to someone else, or ask for premium on someone's behalf.
- Working around the limits. Reinstalling, signing in and out, or editing and re-asking in order to get more answers than the limits allow.
- Using it for something other than planning a trip. The advisers are for travel questions.
- Bulk-copying or reselling what the AI says. It's for your own trip planning. See Terms of Use section 8.
- Putting things in the adviser you shouldn't. What you type to the day ideas adviser goes to an outside company. See What the AI sees, and who gets it.
The limits you can meet
Most planning has no daily count. Auto-plan and Re-plan reuse saved answers, so asking again usually costs nothing the second time. The advisers you ask by hand do have daily limits on each trip, and every AI feature has a monthly allowance shared by all travellers.
| Feature | Daily limit in the app today | What you see at the limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lunch advice | 5 asks for each trip day, per calendar day. "Ask again" counts as an ask. | "You've asked a few times today — try again tomorrow." |
| Day ideas | 12 messages for each trip day | "That's all the ideas for this day — tap Done." |
| Stay advice | 3 asks per trip per day | "You have asked three times for this trip today. Ask again tomorrow." |
| Trip cost estimate | 3 asks per trip per day | "You've asked a few times today — try again tomorrow." |
| Auto-plan and Re-plan, travel times, online checks | No daily count. Saved answers are reused instead. | Nothing, unless a monthly allowance is used up. |
An ask counts against the day only when it was actually answered. If the adviser couldn't be reached, nothing is used. Lunch advice's five are five in total, whichever provider answers.
These numbers can change in a later version of the app. This page is updated when they do.
Monthly allowances shared by everyone
Each feature has an allowance for the whole month across all travellers. When it's used up, that feature rests for everyone until the next month. You'll see wording like:
- "Our adviser is resting until next month." (lunch advice and trip cost)
- "Our adviser has reached this month's limit. It is back next month." (stay advice)
- "Ideas are paused for this month." (day ideas)
- "N questions weren't checked — this month's checking limit is used up." (online checks, where N is how many)
And if too many requests arrive at once, you may see "Too many requests — try again shortly." Try again in a moment.
When you reach a limit
Nothing is lost. Your trip, your saved places and your plan are exactly as they were. The part that needed the AI simply doesn't happen, and the plan uses what your phone worked out on its own. You can still Auto-plan, Re-plan, build a schedule and read every day. See When the AI doesn't answer.
Premium and fair use
- Premium is for a date, and a person decides each request. It isn't renewed automatically. See When premium ends or isn't renewed.
- If an account breaks the Terms or uses the AI features far beyond what planning your own trips needs, we may pause its AI features or end its premium. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first. This follows Terms of Use section 12.
- Fair use isn't a billing system. Nobody is charged for using the AI features.
What we do in return
- AI is off until you switch it on, feature by feature.
- You can see what each AI step did and what it costs to run for you. See See what the AI did and what it cost.
- We don't send your name or email to the AI companies. See What the AI sees, and who gets it.
- We don't refresh places or facts on a schedule. A fact is only looked up when a trip needs it.
Changes to this policy
We may change these limits or this policy as OffYaGo grows. If a change matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect, in the same way as the Terms. This page shows when it was last updated.
