Areas, and what "Waiting to be planned" means
The app groups your places into areas by how close they are, and plans a trip one area at a time. Needs an account
When you add places to a trip, OffYaGo doesn't treat them as a flat list. It groups them into areas: places close enough to do together without a long journey. Tokyo might be one area, Kyoto and Nara another.
How areas are made
- By distance. Places near each other end up in the same area, and a place far from the rest is an area of its own.
- Areas are labelled with the name of the place they're centred on, so you can recognise them.
- Areas can change when you add or remove places, because they're worked out again each time. That's normal.
Your trip's ticket counts them: "10 days · 16 places · 7 areas".
Waiting to be planned
Inside a trip, places that haven't been placed on a day yet wait in this list, grouped by area. A place shows here when you've just added it, when you've sent it back from a day, or when an earlier plan didn't have room for it.
- The menu on a waiting place lets you add it to a day. A day that's full says "Full".
- Auto-plan places them for you.
- You can send one back to your saved places with the return button.
Order of areas
Before planning, you confirm the order the areas will be visited in. The app proposes the order that makes the shortest trip from your home airport and back, and you can move areas up or down. With premium and AI on, an AI can choose between orders the phone already measured. See Auto-plan and Re-plan and How AI helps when you Auto-plan.
Day trips
An area that's near a base but not worth a night of its own can be planned as a day out from the base's hotel. You'll see it on the trip as, for example, "<place>, a day out from <base>". See The trip screen, from top to bottom.
When an area is left out
If an area is too far for the time you have, the app can leave it out and tell you. See Why a place isn't on a day, and why a day looks empty.
